Profiler Winds Display

The profiler winds display has 3 panels, each showing the time history of winds from one of the three JAWS wind profiling radars.

Each profiler winds panel shows wind barbs depicting the speed and direction of winds measured as a function of altitude at one of the wind profiler sites. The winds shown are average values over the ten minute interval prior to the time indicated on the horizontal axis.

The horizontal axis is time (HH:MM) in UTC and the vertical axis is height of the profiler wind measurement in feet above the surface.

Wind Barbs

The direction of the wind is depicted by the angle of the wind barb.  The legend provided shows N pointing to true North and M pointing to Magnetic north.  The wind direction is defined to be coming from the end of the wind barb containing the flag or lines.

The wind speed is represented by the shape of the wind barb and is rounded to the nearest 5 knots. Wind speeds less than 3 knots are considered "calm" and are depicted as a small circle.
Low confidence data is not depicted.

For example, winds with a speed of 73 knots coming from an angle of 165 degrees Magnetic (194.5 degrees True) would be represented by the wind barb shown.
(Note that the speed of 73 knots is rounded to 75 knots).
