Alpha Alerts Display


The Alpha Alerts display shows the current JAWS turbulence alerts.
Alerts are indicated for each of the specified alert areas as shown on the map.
  • 08A 26D - Approach for runway 08/Departure for runway 26
  • DownWind - Downwind of runways
  • LmnCreek - Lemon Creek
  • Gast S-2 - Gastineau Channel below 2000 ft
  • Gast 2-6 - Gastineau Channel 2000-6000 ft
  • 8 High - Gastineau Channel Part 121 Departure

Turbulence alerts are reported at three levels.

  • MOD B737 - moderate turbulence for a 737 type aircraft
  • SEV B737 - severe turbulence for a 737 type aircraft
The example shows an Alpha Display with alerts and areas that are out of service.
  • No Alert
    When there is no alert for an area, the area name is displayed with green type on a black background, e.g., Gast 2-6.
  • Alert
    When an alert occurs, the display line for the area with the alert is displayed with black type on a colored background as shown above.
  • NA
    When an alert area has insufficient data to determine whether an alert exists, the alert line reads "NA" and is displayed on a gray background, e.g., Gast S-2.
